Pleasant Hill
Pleasant Hill is a bedroom town that has done a good job
of combining shops, restaurants, stores, and a large movie complex into a town
center. Known as the town with the best bookstores and libraries in Contra Costa
County, and home to Diablo Valley College, one of the most successful community
colleges in the state in transferring students to top universities.
With a population of 32,837 and 13, 753 households,
Pleasant Hill is a middle-class community moving toward professional. Being an
older suburb, Pleasant Hill has time to grow its trees and shrubs. Many of the
1950s-1960s well-kept homes have been remodeled or upgraded. Newest homes can be
found on the west side.
Pleasant Hill has a park district with 11 city parks and a
canal trail that winds through town. Soccer, tennis, softball, swimming,
bowling, dance, basketball, excursions and more offered through the city. There
is an active program for seniors, including dances, and many classes at adult
school. Waterworld Swim Park is nearby in Concord.
Sun Valley, the regional shopping mall, is located at the
city limits, and The Willows, another mall, is just on the other side of the
freeway. Bank of America employs hundreds in four office buildings near the
freeway. Chevron and Lucent also have large office buildings nearby.
Some complaints about noise from planes taking off and
landing at Buchanan Airport in Concord, so check with neighbors if buying a
home. One BART Station with a second station a short drive away in Lafayette.
