Blackhawk
Blackhawk is an upscale, unincorporated community of
custom homes and townhouses on 6,500 acres in Mt. Diablo foothills, just east of
Danville. Blackhawk has high school scores, a low crime rate, and population of
10, 048 with 94 percent owner-occupied households.
Blackhawk draws entrepreneurs and is a favorite of
professional athletes. Ken
Behring (former owner of the Seattle Seahawks) founded Blackhawk. Prestigious
homeowners have included Jose Canseco and John Madden.
Completely developed, homes are sold through real estate
agents. Homeowners’ association maintains common grounds and pays for
security. Security gates surround town, there are private patrols and a
Sheriff’s substation.
Recreation includes two 18-hole golf courses, a country club,
20 lighted tennis courts, a 25-acre sports complex that includes playing fields
and a pool. Blackhawk Plaza has Gottschalks, shops, restaurants, Behring Museum
(vintage cars), movie complex, University of California Museum of Art, Science
and Culture. There are two shopping centers across the street from Blackhawk
with supermarkets and a variety of stores and restaurants.
Children attend San
Ramon Valley School District schools, all scoring in the 90th
percentile, though crowding is a problem in the district.
